So, here we are at the end of the year and now it’s time for arbitrary lists of things to get put up all over the internet about all sorts of stuff. Today you’ll get my personal Top Ten List of albums (and other music stuff) for 2009. In no particular order (or is there?):

Stuff that’s labeled no-fi, lo-fi, chillwave, glo-fi, and 8,000 other descriptors that describe nothing. At least some of the music is creative.

Phoenix “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”

The Drums “Summertime!” EP

Surfer Blood “Astro Coast” (not officially released yet, but hey I listened to it anyway)

The XX “XX”

Neon Indian “Psychic Chasms”

Grizzly Bear at The Parish, in Austin (killer show in the Summer of Death. Never been so hot by just standing still, but the show was truly epic. Plus, Here We Go Magic were a fantastic opener.)

Spoon at Stubb’s (My first Spoon show was off the chain as they say. Can’t believe I’d never seen them and they defiantly brought it. Highlights were the new track “Who makes you money” and the Stones cover “Rock’s Off”. Jew-Mex horns were a great addition too.)

St. Vincent “Actor” (Truly unique. Avant pop that works.)

Washed Up “Life of Leisure” EP

Jeremy Jay “Love Everlasting” single (Dope synths.)

iPhone (Made life soooooo much easier)

Dirty Projectors “Bitte Orca” (for the music critic/snob in me)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs “It’s Blitz!” (they make it big and make it work)

The Authors “EP” (Hey, it’s my first release and I’m proud! Sue me.)

Mad Men (Totally caught me off guard. I know it debuted in ’07, but hey this is my list.)

SoundCloud (Great tool to share ideas with the band)

Cold Cave “Love Comes Close” (Never enough good New Order/Joy Division stuff, ya know?)

Mos Def “The Ecstatic” (Dope.)
