…but before we “get down”, many thanks to everyone who braved the weather and showed up at the Ultra 8201 party at the Ghost Room last night…and for those who didn’t, you really missed a great vibe – definitely one to remember.
….more stuff we like. How bout a video showing the intro to movie with a theme written by Basil Kirchin? Though written in 1968, this wouldn’t sound out of place on a new Stereolab or Broadcast album – two bands who I’m sure are very familiar with Basil.
….thought this would be a fun little section to add to the new website. At practices we are always sharing music recommendations with each other for exciting new(or old) music. To be honest, this is one of the highlights of my week. Being inspired by a great piece of music is a good feeling and the only thing that tops good music is being able to go a step beyond that and hearing the music that inspired the work that is now inspiring you. For instance, I was grateful to give a hard listen to Fela Kuti’s Afrodisiac after reading that the Talking Heads were heavily influenced by it while recording Remain in the Light(one of my favorite albums).
I figure the new website here would provide the perfect platform for us to share some of the things that are inspiring us right now – for those of you who are just becoming familiar with our music and looking to go a step further in your pursuit of great music….who knows – maybe one day some of you will pay it forward and share our music with a friend (hint hint).
Gram Parsons – She : It’s been a bittersweet day and this song has been in my head all day despite the fact I probably haven’t listened to it in 5 years or more. It’s a timely blast from the past though as I think this was one of GP’s best arranged songs and I love the mellow production of it.
